Water Media Art Workshops

Susan Cowan and Lee Baughman, both award winning watermedia painters and popular teachers from the Portland, OR / Vancouver, WA area, teamed up in 1995 to take artists on painting adventures around the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Since forming www.art-adventures.com they have led painting Workshops on cruises up the Inside Passage of Alaska, paint-outs on the Oregon Coast, painted in the snow on the shores of Lake Louise, returned 6 years to Molokai, HI for inspirational painting retreats at Hui Ho'olana, guided groups for 6 years on painting tours of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, painted the Mardi Gras floats and music scene of New Orleans, and have taken groups back to Kauai, Hawaii
5 years to the peaceful retreat of Hale Luana.
Venice, Italy in 2004 was their first tour across the big water and in 2008 they co-led an amazing tour to Poland with the help of Lloyd and Ulrike Halverson, and as well as their annual Getaways to Friday Harbor, WA. In 2009 they had an incredible two-week Watercolor Workshop based in Limoux, France at Montfaucon with Susan and Lee, preceded by a one week Getaway, Photography for the Artist with Susan and guest leader Sharika Roland, at Haut Baran in Puy L Eveque, France.
2011 featured a return to Limoux, France and Montfaucon (www.montfaucontours.com) with 2 fabulous groups of painters (click on our link of photos of this trip through our Flickr photostream), and a mellow Painting Getaway to Friday Harbor, WA, where beautiful paintings were begun and amazing photographs recorded the wildlife of this special island.

Both tours to Tuscany (www.abbondanzatoscana.com) are FULL for 2012, but plans are in the works for a return Painting Getaway
to Friday Harbor in March 2012 and in Spring of 2013 a return to Hale Luana on the island of Kauai, HI is in the works. A return to France and Montfaucon in 2013 is also being planned.
Students get twice the attention and input from these two veteran teachers who compliment each other with their love of painting, passion for travel, and nurturing of fellow artists. Water Media Workshops are about what you would pay for one instructor and Self Directed Painting Getaways are structured to be as affordable as possible, with Susan and Lee organizing and securing locations/accommodation and joining the group as painting participants, leading the group in daily critiques and touring/travel advice. The two options are ideal: Watermedia Workshops for those who want to learn new techniques and gain a better knowledge of both watercolor and/or acrylics from 2 great instructors or the Self Directed Painting Getaways for those seasoned painters who just want to travel with the camaraderie of fellow artists and not pay workshop prices to do it!
